The Large Bedside Cot Awards: The Most Stunning, Funniest, And The Most Bizarre Things We've Seen

Choosing a Large Bedside Cot

Bedside cots (also called co-sleepers or bassinets) are designed to let parents snuggle with their infant at night without risk of SIDS. However, they are only recommended for use up to 6 months, when your baby will need to move into a cot or a moses basket.

Mehack is an MFM home tester, was impressed by the fact that this model features an integrated bassinet that can be used throughout the house. It also comes with a manual rocking feature. It was also easy to assemble and came in its own travel bag for easy storage.

Size

Cots are smaller than cots. They are less than. They also can be converted into toddler beds, while they are typically used for up to three years. older. If you're looking for a wooden cot, there are usually two sizes to choose from that are large and standard both of which can be converted into a cot bed/toddler bed. Choosing the larger of the two is a good idea when you want your child to sleep in it until they reach +/- three.

MFM mom home tester Jasmine was pleased that this bedside cot was a little bigger than the Moses basket, but not too large for her baby's room. Jasmine says it's easy to get the baby in and out of the cot for night feedings or soothing, and that its quality is superior to others she has seen that are flimsy.

Another home-based test subject, Emily, likes how versatile the Maxi-Cosi Lora is It's a bassinet that lifts off that you can move around the home, and it's rocking too. It also comes with a reflux incline and a machine washable liner that breathes. It was also shortlisted in the 2021 Mother&Baby awards for the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. The Lora is compatible with a South African cot mattress unlike other international or European brands. This means you don't have to purchase a new mattress every time your baby grows. It does require a special bedding set (60x120cm). Here's the ideal mattress for your cot.

Height

When selecting a bedside crib pick one that can be adjusted to the ideal height for you. It must also be lowered out of the way, so that you can pull your child towards you to feed them at night or comfort him. This is especially useful in the event of recovering from a C-section.  travel cot bedside  and the Tutti Bambini can be adjusted to a maximum height of 58cm, while the Snuzpod 3 can go up to 63cm and the Knuma Hutch can be adjusted to 70cm.

bedside co sleeper  to consider is the height you would like to set for the base of your cot. While some mothers find it easier to lift their children out of standard Moses baskets at the lowest level, some mothers prefer having a higher base that gives them more stability. The Joie Roomie Glide is a popular option with one of our mum testers saying that it comes with a simple collapsible part that you can use at the push of one button.

Be aware that a bedside or bassinet device should only be used when your baby can hold his head up with no assistance, which is typically around 6 months. This is because of the possibility of being suffocated. It's also important to know that if you opt for a bedside sleeper or bassinet that you can be converted into a crib and vice versa, you must remove the sides as soon as your child is ready for this to ensure that they don't climb out or get out of the bed.

Design

There are a variety of bedside crib that range from basic to lavish. Some of the more extravagant options include features like an integrated light or a center of calm that plays music and sounds and has two levels to help soothe your baby back to sleep or an adjustable footrest that allows you to reach your child to feed them. There are also models that can be converted to the form of a toddler bed or cot bed (or both) which is ideal when your child is ready to transition to a larger bed.

For example the Tutti Bambini CoZee Air which was awarded Bronze in the 2021 Mother and Baby Awards Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket category, has a swivelling base that allows you to pick up your baby and move them from one side of the crib to the other without having to get out of bed. This is ideal for new mums recovering from Caesarean births or those who have to stay in bed for extended periods. Jasmine, a MFM mum who tested this product at home, stated that it was easy to operate and made it easier to reach her baby - especially after a c-section.

Another option is the Chicco Next2me Magic, which was awarded Gold at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for the category of the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket.  4-in-1 bedside crib  is equipped with an easy-to-clean liner, reflux incline and rocking function. It's a bit larger than some of the other bedside cribs we tried, but it folds flat into its travel bag so it's quite compact when not in use.

Leya, MFM mum home tester Also, she appreciated the bedside crib's function. She said it was designed for both parents and children. 'It has an excellent design that is extremely maneuverable and is super-sturdy. She also said that the swivelling bassinet base was brilliant because it allowed you to move it from side to side. One of its sides could be lower to facilitate access for moms who are recovering from c-sections.

Safety

The bedside cot's primary security characteristic is that it is able to be moved up or down so that parents can reach their child to feed or comfort them, or change his or his or her diaper. This makes it perfect for new mothers recovering from a c-section. Find a model that lets you lower one side with the press of a button, so you can easily lift your baby without needing to get out of the bed. This is essential, especially when your baby grows and becomes more mobile. Avoid adding anything that could increase the chance of injury or suffocation such as pillowcases and duvets that can cause your baby to overheat.

The NPR of the CPSC's NPR included 24 incidents that were attributed to product issues, such as gaps between the bedside sleeper and the adult bed (12 incidents) and enclosed openings with fabric sides (11 incidents) as well as consumer misassembly, or missing components (6 incidents); and miscellaneous other product-related issues (9 incidents).

In its NPR, the CPSC examined the possibility of imposing additional requirements for bedside sleepers, such as the requirement that these beds meet the minimum side height requirement for bassinets or at the very least, meet the maximum height requirement for the side rail. The CPSC decided, however, that these requirements weren't feasible or effective in reducing the number of instances in which infants are trapped between a bedside rail and an adult bed.

A majority of the incidents reported in the NPR included multi-use bedside sleepers that can be converted to other types of use, such as play yards and bassinets. Many commenters suggested that the CPSC include a different provision to the proposed rule for bedside sleepers that are multi-use that would allow them to meet minimum side height requirements for bassinets by using an attachment that is removable. The attachment can be permanently connected or removed when the item is not being used as a bassinet for babies.

The CPSC is considering these and other comments that were received in response to its NPR on bedside sleepers. The Commission will consider these comments when it decides on the final rule which is expected to be released in the month of November 2021.
